"An indie filmmaker may become king of the (MMA) screen." --Sports Illustrated

Hollywood has hijacked mixed martial arts. Think Karate Kid meets Bring it On (you know, that cheerleading movie).

According to Never Back Down, the world of underground fighting works a little something like this: boy (and likely Calvin Klein underwear model) moves to a new town. Boy lusts after innocent, cute girl. Boy encounters bully. Boy works his butt off to beat up bully. Boy becomes hero.

How quaint.

"That stuff just doesn't happen in real life," says Bobby Razak. "The guys in the movie are not fighters, the whole story is cheesy, and in my 13, 14 years in MMA, I've never seen any story like that."

Exclusive: Interview with "Simply Believe" Director Bobby Razak --Fight Ticker

Only a couple of months ago, the mixed martial arts world lost a giant. When Charles "MASK" Lewis was killed in a tragic car accident, the MMA community at large mourned. Numerous articles and posts popped up on blogs and news outlets across the country and memorials in the form of online tributes, letters to the Tapout company, tribute Web sites, original artwork, and an empty seat at UFC and WEC events all served as reminders of a man who did so much to change the face of MMA in his own way.

Another tribute emerged in the form of a short but poignant look at the man known to the MMA world as Mask -- a tribute in the form of a 15 minute short film that juxtaposed iconic images and quotes from Mask alongside comments about Mask and his contributions to the MMA world from some of the biggest names in the fight game.

"It was a major loss because he touched so many people in the sport and not only touched them, but he helped so many people out through sponsorship, life and problems. Mask was the guy you could call when you were having a bad day and he would make you feel that much better about your situation. When he died, they had 7,000 people at his memorial and the reason why is because he was that loved," stated director Bobby Razak as he remembers TapouT founder Charles "Mask" Lewis and discusses the making of the short film Simply Believe and much more.
